RECREATIONAL COACHES

Referee classes and clinics are being scheduled around our area for July and August. For people wanting to become referees the web site is www.iowareferees.org under their calendar tab you will find Entry Level Classes scheduled in the state. Class fee is $50 and includes referee license for fall 2010 and 2011 year.

For current referees, and any club members, there are some "On Field Training" clinics set for August 15 in Ankeny, August 21 at Soccer South and August 22 in Stuart. These are also listed in the Iowa Referee web site. Each one of these will have an instructor on site and does count for recertification hours for 2010 referees. Referees need to register for the clinics.

There is no cost this year for the clinics. We will have sessions on new rules and points of emphasis, practice games at U-10 & 12 for newer referees to gain advice from experienced people, How to & why we do things, Question & Answer sessions and more. The clinics are also open to coaches, players, parents, etc. that want to know more or want a better understanding of the game and rules. The clinics are open to any club to attend and I would encourage everyone to try and make one in your area. In an effort to gain referee consistency from club to club this is a good place to start. 4:46 PM 7/21/2010

Recreational Coach’s Guide to JSC Game Rescheduling,
Referee Payments & Player Card Procedures

Game Cancellation & Rescheduling

When JSC Teams request a game to be rescheduled, they must notify both the Director of Fields and the Director of Referees. If a minimum of four days (96 hours prior to game time) notice was not provided, the teams will be granted the request after agreeing to compensate the JSC for additional referee fees.

Yes, there will be situations when the four day minimum cannot be met. These will be reviewed individually. The above policy is to discourage sudden game changes and to respect the time of our referees. JSC referees accept games in advance and adapt their schedules to fill these important positions for us.

The JSC provides a web service, www.arbitersports.com, to assist you in contacting your assigned referees if a game is suddenly cancelled and re-scheduling has not been worked out. Please contact our Director of Referees with any questions that you may have regarding the use of this service.

Player Cards/Rosters

All players must have a valid player card with photo and signature to play. Player cards are provided to each head coach for their team. Please obtain pictures for each child and attach to their player card. Player cards are valid for one year. If you don’t plan on coaching again in the spring, please return the player cards for your team to the Club Administrator.

JSC referees are instructed withhold any player from participating if they do not have a signed player card with photo attached, regardless of their age.

Payment of Referees

JSC referees will no longer be paid by the coaches. Yes, really.

COACHES CODE OF CONDUCT

Parents who volunteer to coach one of our teams take on a major responsibility of educating and developing our young players. We feel that every one of our players deserve a worthwhile soccer experience and so in turn we introduce the expectations of our coaches in the form of this coach’s code of conduct.

  • Coaches will primarily be motivated by the physical / emotional well-being, development and enjoyment of players and not by any personal desire to win.

  • Coaches will be approachable to players and will encourage players to express their own opinions. Coaches will also be prepared to explain their actions and decisions to players.

  • Coaches will treat players with respect and adhere to the club philosophy.

  • Coaches will coach players by explaining principles of the game. A coaching style that revolves around shouting and bellowing at players is not acceptable.

  • Coaches will make every effort to be positive to both individuals and teams. Coaches will utilize encouragement and positive reinforcement rather than criticism where possible.

  • Coaches will attend a mandatory coaches clinic at the beginning of each season, i.e. one in fall and one in spring.

  • All coaches will work under the guidance of the Director of Coaching and in line with the Club curriculums and philosophies to ensure a suitable program of learning is followed at practices and games.

  • Coaches will refrain from questioning refereeing decisions and if they do it will be in a respectful manner that does not set a negative example to players.
